“A MAN WAS LYNCHED YESTERDAY”
After reading the statement, what comes to your mind? How did this statement make you feel?
Walking down Fifth Avenue in the heart of New York City during the 1920s, people passed this flag every day until 1936. Frankly, I find it quite disturbing that still to this day, after a hundred years from when the NAACP first flew the anti-lynching flag above, I can sit here and sadly say, “A MAN WAS LYNCHED YESTERDAY.” What a harsh reality for the black community to still witness innocent young black men being killed -lynched in 2020.
-Now that’s deep!
There is a lot of historical inquiry when it comes to explaining the term LYNCHED. However, this research is expounding on How and Why in America, lynching’s is still an occurring issue threatening the lives of many Americans.
So, what does it mean to be LYNCHED?
- when three or more people; or a Mob, puts someone to death without any legal action. This action is done either by tradition or for justice reasons.
Honestly, I truly believe “History Repeats Itself.” In supporting this theory, this research will argue that the same issues that initiated the New negro Movement in the 1920s, is far from over. This research is going to explore on deep historical knowledge and context to explain how one hundred years later, in 2020, lynching’s is still an ongoing issue in America.
